About The Position

SSM Health Dean Medical Group South Madison Campus is seeking a PRN Worker to assist in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients. This role involves receiving patient care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiating delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities for specific patient age groups. The position requires collecting and documenting data for reassessment, performing 12 lead EKGs, assisting with medical procedures, and maintaining supplies and equipment. The worker will also assist with clerical duties, prepare patients for discharge, and transport patients as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Driver’s License from the state of work location.
  • Advanced EMT or EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate certification from the Illinois Department of Public Health or equivalent certifications from other states.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge.
  • Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities for specific patient age group served.
  • Collects and documents data for reassessment at specific times for patient population.
  • Documents and provides appropriate data to the Physician, RN and/or LPN for analysis and validation of patient’s response to care or treatment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12 lead EKG.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG on patient according to policy and procedures.
  • Assists physician and nursing staff with medical procedures.
  • Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment.
  • Turns over rooms after each patient use: cleans carrier, changes sheets, restocks supplies, disposes of trash, ensures equipment returns to its proper place.
  • Assists with delegated clerical duties such as answering telephones, relaying messages, transcription of physician orders, preparing and organizing the patient’s medical record.
  • Prepares patients for discharge or completion of patient visit and accompanies them upon dismissal as indicated.
  • Transports patients to a receiving department or facility if indicated.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
