About The Position

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician works under the direction of the Instrument Processing Supervisor and assists with the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This role serves as a departmental resource for SPD and other departments, modeling excellent customer service and maintaining frequent communication with the Sterile Processing Supervisor.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years' experience in Sterile Processing.
• Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or other sterile processing certification required.
• Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
• Assumes role and responsibilities of Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
• Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
• Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
• Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
• Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and reports issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
• Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
• Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
• Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
• Protects self, co-workers, and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s).
