About The Position

The Cloud Solutions Architect is responsible for designing and implementing secure, scalable and cost efficient cloud architectures across AWS and Azure. You will translate business and technical requirements into practical cloud solutions that support data and compute intensive subsurface workflows, including HPC. This is a hands on role where you will have the opportunity to architect, build, integrate and support these systems in production, including integration with existing on-prem systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years in cloud engineering, infrastructure, DevOps or solutions architecture.
• Proven experience designing, building and operating production workloads on AWS and/or Azure.
• Direct work with clients or cross-functional stakeholders on requirements, solution design and delivery.
• Scripting/coding experience (preferably in Python, with some exposure to Java) and use of infrastructure-as-code tools

Nice To Haves

• Relevant certifications desirable (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS DevOps Engineer).

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end architecture and implementation for internal and client workloads on AWS and Azure, including integration with on-prem systems where required.
• Run discovery and design activities; produce architecture documents and diagrams, then implement or directly oversee deployment of the resulting systems.
• Own key components (networking, identity, storage, compute, databases, serverless, PaaS) from design through to production.
• Architect and implement HPC and large batch workloads (e.g. AWS Batch, Azure Batch, Slurm), optimising performance, data access and cost.
• Embed FinOps practices in designs, including right-sizing, reservations, storage lifecycle policies and cost monitoring.
• Support pre-sales with technical input to proposals and client presentations; mentor colleagues in practical cloud implementation.
• Develop automation, integration and operational tooling using Python and occasionally Java, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as AWS CloudFormation and Terraform
