About The Position

The Cloud Solution Architect serves as a key technical leader under the Chief Technology Officer, for directly designing, building, and integrating enterprise cloud solutions. This role is deeply involved in the practical implementation of cloud-native architectures, migration of legacy systems, and hands-on troubleshooting across AWS, Azure, and GCP platforms. The architect works closely with development teams, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective solutions that meet organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in designing, building, and troubleshooting cloud-native solutions (microservices, serverless, containers).
  • Proficiency with AWS, Azure, and GCP—deploying, configuring, and managing native services for computer, networking, security, and data.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation) and automation of cloud deployments.
  • Proficiency in designing solutions using modern development stacks (Java, .NET, Node.js, Python)
  • Strong skills in DevOps/GitOps, CI/CD pipeline setup, and cloud monitoring tools.
  • Practical proficiency with API gateway management, service mesh, and secure API development.
  • Ability to lead technical teams in solution delivery, code reviews, and architecture validation.
  • Proficient in migrating and refactoring legacy applications for cloud environments.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud security, compliance frameworks, and secure data exchange.
  • Skilled communicator, able to document and present technical solutions and decisions.
  • Knowledge of critical federal and state cybersecurity and risk management frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, CMMC), and experience designing compliant systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data exchange standards relevant to the public sector (e.g., NIEM, HL7, FHIR) and experience with modern messaging/middleware technologies for secure data interoperability.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities with a proven track record of guiding cross-functional teams to consensus on complex architectural challenges.
  • Adept at balancing enterprise standards with project agility to drive technical innovation while maintaining governance and security.
  • Effective communicator and technical leader, capable of presenting complex architecture roadmaps and technical concepts to both executive stakeholders and development teams.
  • Ability to evaluate and modernize legacy applications for scalability, interoperability, and security.
  • Ability to assess trade-offs between technology, cost, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional architecture initiatives across agencies or divisions.
  • Ability to present architectural recommendations clearly to executive decision-makers.
  • Ability to drive alignment between business, data, and technical domains.
  • Ability to stay current with evolving public sector technology trends, including zero-trust security, cloud migration, and shared platforms.
  • Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs; and in troubleshooting computer systems.
  • Ability to analyze systems and procedures, to write and revise standards and procedures, and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to oversee and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience on a year for year basis).
  • 10+ years in application design and development, with 5+ years in hands-on cloud architecture roles.
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud technologies and DevOps tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as AWS/Azure Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the hands-on design, development, and deployment of cloud-native applications and services. You will build and configure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM, and CloudFormation. Your responsibilities include migrating legacy applications to cloud platforms by refactoring them for microservices, serverless, or container-based architectures, as well as troubleshooting and resolving technical issues to ensure high availability and optimal performance. Additionally, you will implement automation for CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices to streamline development and operational processes.
  • Guide development teams in applying cloud architecture patterns and best practices, ensuring robust and scalable solutions. By conducting technical reviews, code walkthroughs, and architecture validation sessions, you help maintain high standards and consistency across projects. Collaboration with business and IT stakeholders is key to translating requirements into actionable cloud solutions, while mentoring junior architects and engineers fosters skill development and effective solution delivery within the team.
  • Focus on security-by-design principles in all cloud solutions, ensuring strict compliance with NIST, FedRAMP, and state cybersecurity standards. By implementing secure data exchange and interoperability through modern messaging and API technologies, you safeguard sensitive information and facilitate seamless integration. Additionally, you will continuously optimize cloud resources to achieve the best balance of cost, performance, and scalability.
  • Document solution architectures, technical decisions, and implementation steps using industry-standard modeling tools. Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Other Duties as assigned- Support agency modernization initiatives and stay current with evolving cloud technologies and public sector trends.

Benefits

  • Our comprehensive benefits package includes 100% paid employee health insurance for full-time eligible employees, a defined benefit pension plan, generous time off benefits, numerous opportunities for career advancement and more.
