About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location. We are seeking a skilled Cloud Security Engineer to design, implement, and maintain security controls across a hybrid digital test environment spanning both on-premises private cloud and public cloud infrastructures. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in securing enterprise cloud services, ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, and embedding zero-trust principles into architectures that support test and evaluation missions. This role will bridge traditional enterprise security engineering with modern DevSecOps practices to safeguard mission-critical systems.

Requirements

  • DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification required (Security+ CE minimum, or equivalent).
  • 7+ years of cybersecurity engineering experience, including 3+ years in cloud security.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-native security services (AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, Azure Security Center, Google Security Command Center).
  • Proficiency with IAM, SSO, MFA, PKI, and role-based access controls in hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with container and Kubernetes security (e.g., Istio, OPA, Aqua, Prisma, Twistlock).
  • Hands-on experience with RMF, STIGs, CMMC, and NIST 800-53 controls implementation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).

Nice To Haves

  • DoD experience securing test and evaluation or acquisition systems.
  • Expertise in cloud-native logging, monitoring, and SIEM integrations (Splunk, ELK, Sentinel, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Certifications such as CCSP, CISSP, AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer Associate, GCP Professional Cloud Security Engineer.
  • Familiarity with cross-domain security and classified cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement security architectures for hybrid on-prem and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Define and enforce cloud security policies, including identity and access management, encryption, and data protection.
  • Integrate zero trust principles and DoD cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, STIGs, CMMC, NIST 800-53).
  • Implement and manage cloud-native and third-party security tools (SIEM, CSPM, CWPP, CASB).
  • Perform continuous monitoring of cloud environments for threats, vulnerabilities, and misconfigurations.
  • Support incident response activities, including detection, investigation, and remediation of security events.
  • Embed security into CI/CD pipelines for cloud-hosted applications and services.
  • Automate compliance checks, vulnerability scans, and configuration management using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and container security platforms.
  • Collaborate with software and infrastructure teams to ensure 'security by design.'
  • Work closely with cloud architects, network engineers, and cybersecurity SMEs to ensure end-to-end security across the digital test environment.
  • Support accreditation efforts (RMF, ATO packages) and provide security artifacts for assessments.
  • Contribute to enterprise service catalogs and request-fulfillment processes for security services.
