About The Position

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is seeking an intermediate-level Cloud Platform Systems Administrator to join our Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT) department. ICT is a division of UFIT that manages the UF Data Centers and delivers hosted servers, storage, virtualization, database, email, and related systems, in addition to connecting the University of Florida campuses to the world via high-speed data, video, Wi-Fi, telecommunications, and VoIP services. The Cloud Platform team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, and administration of UF’s cloud and virtualization ecosystem. You will apply your technical expertise to fast-paced, production and development environments housing thousands of servers and petabytes of storage. Join our team to support the design, security, and automation of our enterprise cloud and virtualization ecosystem. You will work alongside senior engineers to manage the full lifecycle of advanced hardware and software systems. This role relies on automation and modern orchestration tools to ensure the high availability and reliability of UFIT’s hosted platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience but does not negate the minimum degree requirement(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or related field.
  • Implementing and maintaining cloud solutions such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience with hypervisor systems such as vSphere, vRealize Automation, and Proxmox.
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
  • Experience or knowledge with version control platforms (GitLab, GitHub) and building automation pipelines using GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Support of RHEL, Ubuntu, and Windows Server operating systems and/or managing physical hardware such as HPE Synergy/ProLiant or Cisco UCS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex challenges for a broad range of hardware and software while maintaining effective technical documentation.
  • Provide excellent service through professional and courteous interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused, and critical production support environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey technical resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and implementing advanced system solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud providers.
  • Participate in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise-level hardware and software systems.
  • Support the high availability of hosted servers, storage, and virtualization platforms for the university community.
  • Assist the team with requirement gathering, capacity planning, and Proof-of-Concept (POC) testing for new technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical challenges and participate in ensuring the 24/7 integrity and availability of UFIT services.
