About The Position

The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) is seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Engineer within its Technology Services Division. ASRS is searching for qualified IT professionals to evaluate cloud strategy, program architecture, and maintain its multi-cloud enterprise infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Cloud Expertise: Strong knowledge of cloud technology concepts, including Cloud Identity Management and multi-cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
  • Networking: Deep understanding of networking concepts (e.g., DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, Load Balancing) and data flow control to/from service providers.
  • Automation: 2-3 years of experience developing and maintaining scripts using PowerShell, CLI, JSON, Python, or Bash.
  • Systems Administration: Technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Linux Server operating systems in a virtualized environment.
  • Modern Workflow: Experience with Git integration, DevOps/automation improvements, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations.
  • Professionalism: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or a related IT discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience working in Public Cloud environments managing IaaS and PaaS solutions via automated infrastructures.
  • Certifications: Possession of at least one relevant cloud vendor certification, such as: AWS Certifications: Associate or Professional level (Architect, Developer, or SysOps). Microsoft Azure Certifications: Associate or Professional level (Administrator or Architect).
  • Specialized Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Cloud Cost Optimization, monitoring/auditing cloud environments, and deploying databases on cloud service models.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Orchestration: Orchestrating and automating cloud-based platforms throughout the organization using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripts.
  • Environment Management: Ownership of the deployment, management, and operation of scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems in Public Cloud environments (IaaS and PaaS).
  • Strategic Planning: Working with architects to gather system requirements and generate new services and products through best practices and automation.
  • Operational Oversight: Proactive monitoring, auditing, and debugging of technical issues within complex stacks involving virtualization, containers, and microservices.
  • Cost & Security Control: Implementing security guidelines for cloud environments and identifying operational cost control mechanisms.
  • Service Delivery: Implementing solutions for reliable, secure, and highly-available IaaS/PaaS/SaaS.
  • Documentation: Drafting project documentation and maintaining desk procedures for cloud application protocols and usage.
