About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Cloud FinOps & Cost Analyst to support financial governance, cost optimization, and cloud economics across activities supporting the analytics and intelligence mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Cloud FinOps & Cost Analyst will work closely with cloud engineering, infrastructure operations, program leadership, and financial management teams to analyze cloud consumption, identify cost optimization opportunities, and support financial planning for cloud migration and modernization initiatives. This position plays a critical role in improving cost transparency, budget forecasting, and operational efficiency across CBP cloud environments. Support will be provided across multiple mission locations: Ashburn, VA Sterling, VA Washington, D.C.

Requirements

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA. 9 years with a HS diploma/equivalent can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Experience analyzing cloud cost and usage data within AWS or Azure environments.
  • Understanding of cloud service pricing models, billing structures, and cost drivers.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in:
  • Microsoft Excel
  • SQL
  • Business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud cost management tools or cloud-native billing platforms.
  • Ability to communicate financial insights to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required CBP BI suitability
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FinOps practices or FinOps Foundation certification.
  • Familiarity with federal cloud environments (AWS GovCloud or Azure Government).
  • Experience supporting cloud migration or modernization programs.
  • Knowledge of FISMA, FedRAMP, and federal IT governance frameworks.
  • Experience implementing tagging strategies, cost allocation models, and governance policies.
  • Background working on federal IT infrastructure or cloud programs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze cloud usage and spending trends across AWS and Azure environments, identifying cost drivers and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain cloud cost dashboards, forecasts, and financial reports for program leadership and engineering teams.
  • Identify and recommend cost optimization strategies such as rightsizing, reserved instances/savings plans, scheduling, and storage lifecycle management.
  • Support financial analysis for cloud migration initiatives, including cost modeling, forecasting, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) comparisons.
  • Monitor budgets, track variances, and investigate cost anomalies or unexpected consumption patterns.
  • Maintain resource tagging compliance and cost allocation models to improve financial transparency and accountability.
  • Utilize cloud-native and third-party cost management tools to automate reporting, alerts, and optimization insights.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering, DevOps, finance, and program teams to align cloud architecture decisions with financial governance and efficiency goals.
