About The Position

A well-capitalized, technology-driven investment firm in Southern California is seeking a Cloud Compute & Infrastructure Engineer. The firm is undergoing a significant infrastructure transition from a fully on-premises environment to public cloud, specifically GCP. This role is central to facilitating this transition by owning the full platform layer between raw cloud resources and the end-users. This is a build-from-scratch opportunity to shape how the entire firm interacts with its compute layer. The engineer will work closely with researchers, traders, and other engineers in a flat, collaborative environment where ideas are valued. The team is small and growing, fostering a culture that values kindness and intellectual curiosity alongside technical skills. The work environment includes private offices and premium workspace.

Requirements

  • Built infrastructure that other engineers actually want to use
  • True generalist who can move between cloud orchestration, web interfaces, and CLI tooling
  • Broad systems knowledge including networking, storage, compute, and containers
  • Real experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar)
  • Strong background in C++
  • Comfort in scripting languages like Python, Go, Rust, or Ruby
  • Cloud platform depth required (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure transferable)
  • Experience building and supporting production-critical applications
  • 5+ years building and shipping production infrastructure
  • CS degree or equivalent depth from hands-on experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building developer-facing tools (CLIs, internal portals, APIs)
  • GCP experience preferred
  • Experience at a major tech company (Facebook, Amazon, Google level)
  • CS degree from a strong school (e.g., Waterloo, top-100 US)

Responsibilities

  • Design how internal teams request, provision, and access compute resources, including building CLIs, dashboards, and APIs for self-service
  • Work deep in IaC pipelines, wiring up orchestration for batch workloads
  • Figure out how to make a hybrid on-prem/cloud environment feel seamless to end users
  • Shape the tooling around the full software development and operations lifecycle, from build pipelines to deployment workflows
  • Automate manual processes
  • Take ownership and communicate clearly
  • Figure things out independently and proactively in a small, flat organization
