Closures CAE Technical Specialist - positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan). Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the Dearborn office. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance from Dearborn, MI.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 10 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • 10 years of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Utilizing Abaqus, nCode, ANSA/Hypermesh, Ls-Dyna to analyze body-in-white/closures sub-systems, system or vehicle level assessments. 2. Performing failure analysis to identify physical test issues not predicted by CAE. 3. Closures/Body-in-white component/system level cross-functional attributes validation (Safety, durability, aerodynamics, NVH, and body structures). 4. Developing/Improving CAE methods to predict durability issues correlating to customer use cases. 5. Performing Linear, Non-Linear, Static and Dynamic Implicit or Explicit Analysis using Abaqus.
  • 5 years of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Automotive assembly process, clearly understand source of manufacturing variability and noise factors that impact closures performance. 2. Using RSM (Response surface methodology), Least Squares Method, and Kriging to complement full factorial DOEs (Design of Experiments) for Monte Carlo CAE reliability-based assessments using RSM for faster computation.
  • 4 years of experience with the following skill is required: 1. Translating design requirements into virtual CAE method that other CAE engineers can follow.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development or improvements of CAE methods to enhance virtual validation of forward model programs for all subsystem, system or vehicle level assessments of closures parts.
  • Identify correlation issues between CAE analysis and physical test to close gaps.
  • Mentor and train CAE engineers that report to the closures CAE application supervisor.
  • Investigate root cause for quality issues on the field related to CAE escape points.
  • Establish/Refine CAE targets for closures commodity taking into account connected vehicle data in regard to open/close cycles in a vehicle.
  • Domestic and International Travel Required up to 10%.
