The Closure Systems Engineer II will be responsible for designing and developing closure systems, including hoods, trunk lids, tailgates, doors, sealing, and advanced closures. The role involves performing design-releasing duties for North American-based vehicle projects and managing system BOMs. The engineer will create and modify 3D data and 2D drawings using CATIA V5 and other engineering tools. Additionally, the engineer will lead system cost/mass target reduction studies for components and parts, investigate system quality, assembly obstacles, and durability issues, and suggest engineering improvements. Mentoring and guiding junior engineers on best practices to mitigate future issues is also a key responsibility. The role requires leading cross-functional team interface actions with other engineering design teams and suppliers, both domestically and within Korea, as well as design and issue resolution actions with US-based Korean Coordinators. The engineer will review and advise on part/system performance and regulatory testing, lead system benchmarking activities for future product development opportunities, and liaise between North American affiliates and Korean headquarters. The role also involves recommending engineering improvements based on assessed field claims and supporting the interpretation of regulations and crash performance requirements. Finally, the engineer will support advanced development of closure systems and components for future vehicles and may require travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
