Responsibilities: Assists in maintaining patient and staff safety by monitoring patients and assisting with delegated nursing care. Incorporates therapeutic and diversionary interventions to maintain patient safety, refocus the patient, and promote healthy behaviors as needed. Leads daily operations including but not limited to staff performance, and oversight of operational flows/problem-solving in collaboration with nursing leadership. Conducts general administrative duties to support a safe and efficient team and service to the patient.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Psychology, Sociology or related field and 2 years of experience in a hospital in-patient unit setting required
  • Excellent communication skills, conflict management skills, and team building knowledge required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in human services preferred
  • Experience with caring for patients with various psychological and cognitive disorders at risk of safety to themselves and/or others preferred
  • Prior leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Incorporates therapeutic and diversionary interventions to maintain patient safety, refocus the patient, and promote healthy behaviors.
  • Assists patients with ambulation, hygiene, nutrition, linen changes, and other activities of daily living.
  • Identifies potential risks and early signs of escalating patient behaviors, such as agitation, confusion, and anxiety.
  • Maintains communication with team members.
  • Leads routine rounding, staff meetings, and weekly updates.
  • Oversees safety of patients and staff.
  • Provides oversight of staff in day-to-day operations in collaboration with leadership.
  • Coordinates on-call administrative responsibilities.
  • Creates assignment placements for new employees, students and preceptors.
  • Completes initial schedule entry.
  • Sets up MSS profiles, eRecord scheduling and IT resolution.
  • Requests swipe and gatekeeper access.
  • Schedules Pediatric education and hospital tours.
  • Provides other units with education and shadowing opportunities with the GPS team to help their support staff with new adult and dementia patient population.
  • Coordinates psychiatric safety training and psychiatric safety debriefing.
  • Conducts quarterly one-to-one meetings with GPS team for coaching and conflict management.
  • Implements progressive discipline when appropriate, and contributes to annual review.
  • Determines routine staff schedules, vacation approval and coordination, approval of overtime shift requests, and approval of shift swap requests.
  • Approves routine biweekly payroll approval.
  • Participates in unit council as representative.
  • Coordinates recruitment efforts including interview and completion of new hire paperwork and offers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
