JOB SUMMARYResponsible for accurately timing, recording, and reporting official workouts for Thoroughbred horses during training hours in accordance with racing regulations and Company standards. This is a seasonal position for the March race meet at Colonial Downs.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to record precise timing data.
  • Knowledge of Thoroughbred racing terminology, workout distances, and training practices.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow strict regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Racing Commission racing license.
  • The Team Member will be required to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, reach, handle, or feel objects or equipment; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The Team Member may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The Team Member may be required to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and during designated training hours.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The work environment is primarily outdoors and may include exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and noise associated with track operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a clocker or in Thoroughbred racing operations preferred.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately time official workouts for Thoroughbred horses during designated training hours using approved timing methods and equipment.
  • Record workout times, distances, track conditions, and other required details in accordance with racing regulations.
  • Ensure all recorded workout information is complete, accurate, and submitted within required timeframes.
  • Communicate effectively with racing officials, trainers, and track personnel regarding workout timing and reporting.
  • Maintain awareness of horse identification to ensure workouts are correctly attributed.
  • Adhere to all Virginia Racing Commission regulations, Company policies, and departmental procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all workout data and privileged racing information.
  • Identify and report irregularities, discrepancies, or safety concerns to the appropriate racing officials.
  • Attend required training sessions and meetings as directed.
  • Resolves problems within the scope of authority and escalates issues beyond that scope to the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
