About The Position

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is a Magnet-designated leader in women's health, providing comprehensive care from groundbreaking research to advanced treatments and compassionate, personalized support throughout a woman's life. The Labor & Delivery Department is an extraordinarily high-volume maternity unit dedicated to caring for patients experiencing normal/natural childbirth, complicated high-risk deliveries, substance abuse, and pregnancy loss. This department includes an OB emergency department, labor suite, OR, PACU, and ICU. Clinicians will collaborate with various OB disciplines and providers, including Resident physicians, family practice physicians, OB attending physicians, and midwives. While previous postpartum or labor & delivery experience is strongly preferred, candidates with Med Surg (Acute Care), ED, and/or ICU experience will be considered. The Clinician is a nurse leader responsible for fostering a culture of excellence and patient care, serving as a professional nursing practice role model. Under the direction of a Unit Director or department manager, the Clinician manages daily performance, conducts staff selection and hiring, and completes employee evaluations for a group of direct reports. They also provide service-based education, clinical expertise, orientation, training, and consultation on practice issues for staff, and may deliver nursing care when needed. Clinicians actively precept student nurses, nurse interns, graduate, and experienced nurses, and help develop new preceptors. They lead clinical nursing practice, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive change processes, assuming formal leadership in areas such as quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and new hire onboarding.
