About The Position

The McConnell Group, www.themccgroup.com , a health science company, is seeking an experienced Clinical Veterinarian who will be responsible for maintaining the physical and psychological health of large and small laboratory animals utilized in all research; ensuring compliance with regulations governing humane and ethical treatment and use of laboratory animals by leading a team of highly specialized lab animal care staff/veterinary technicians; assisting and advising study directors with animal model development, humane endpoints and breeding as needed. Required Immunizations and Screenings: This position will require proof of measles titer and annual TB screening This position will require working with animals ( e.g. Non-Human Primates, Rabbits, Rats, Mice). This position will require access to lab animal spaces. Sc hedule: Variable hours to include weekends, holidays, and emergencies as requested . Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally no more than 10% of the time, depending on the needs of the project, the client, and the company. Ability to accommodate evening, overnight or weekend travel, including potential extended trips to attend training, meetings, conduct fieldwork, or meet with clients. Position Responsibilities: Provide vivo testing services that comply with worldwide regulatory requirements, standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and departmental policies; reviews, edits, and prepares study protocols. Provides medical and surgical support in multiple laboratory animal species . Develops and validates small and large animal models. Use advanced bio methodologies to administer test and control articles. Performs noninvasive physiologic monitoring as . Analyzes, reports, and distributes research data. Provides oversight to the clinical care program for all laboratory animals Provides leadership in the care and resolution of complex medical cases and cases related to experimental outcomes. Maintains accurate medical and veterinary records in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices in accordance with the Code of Federal regulations for FDA review. Provides after- hours emergency veterinary care as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of DVM
  • Prefer 2+ years of direct experience working in the lab animal medicine field.
  • Board certification or eligible by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or equivalent international certification.
  • A license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one US state and the ability to obtain a license in Pennsylvania within 1 year of employment is
  • DACLAM (or eligible) is
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC).
  • Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience with a wide variety of common laboratory animal species
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate through conflicting situations
  • Self-directed with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact with team members, clients, vendors, and other third parties.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across various disciplines to ensure alignment.
  • Ability to use digital communication tools (video conferencing, chat platforms, etc.) to effectively collaborate with team members in hybrid and remote settings.

  • Experience directly supervising personnel: veterinary technicians, etc. preferred.
