Transports patients independently monitoring the patient's condition en-route and during procedures as needed. Utilizes transportation algorithm to determine appropriate follow-up for emergent and/or urgent patient needs. Transports items, equipment, charts and/or specimens that are unable to travel via pneumatic tube system. Transports non-monitored patients (via wheelchair, bed, stretcher, transport chair, transcart and other transportation devices), specimens, charts, films, and equipment to and from designated areas within the hospital. Transports calls responded to, arrived at, as well as completed within expected TAT for transportation department in a customer friendly manner. Collaborates with the RN, physician, and other clinical disciplines to meet the needs of the patient who requires transportation between areas of care within the hospital. Demonstrates thorough and complete documentation skills in a timely manner. Appropriately reports changes in patient status to licensed staff. Utilizes effective communication skills. Receives and screens incoming requests via phone and other wireless technology. Demonstrates excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and/or other health care professionals. Assist in new staff department orientation. Utilizes proper body mechanics. Maintain a safe comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Knowledgeable of patient's rights and respects the rights of the patient to include accepting or refusing medical care. Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities. Actively participates in obtaining desired service line/ departmental operational excellence targets and scorecard goals. Maintains oxygen and wheelchairs, stretchers, transport-chairs, transcarts, etc.
