About The Position

Summary of Role: The Clinical Toxicology Technologist I performs routine LC-MS/MS sample preparation and testing of urine and oral fluid specimens following established protocols. This role requires consistent adherence to quality standards, instrument maintenance, and accurate documentation. Technologists are expected to be detail-oriented, dependable, data-driven, and committed to maintaining TAT and workflow expectations. The position closely partners with the Toxicology Technologist II and III teams to ensure operational efficiency and supports overall departmental goals. This role reports directly to the Clinical Toxicology Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Toxicology, or other closely related field
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) or Toxicology Restricted License, preferred
  • NYS Training License Eligible, required
  • Minimum of 1 year pertinent laboratory experience required
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Keen interest in continuous learning
  • Proficiency in quickly reading, interpreting, and retaining information
  • Openness to seeking clarification and actively listening
  • Advanced technology proficiency
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Standing or sitting for an extended period
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Routine Testing: Conducting regular tests as per laboratory procedures.
  • Quality Control: Performing quality control measures to ensure test accuracy.
  • Calibration: Regularly calibrating laboratory instruments to maintain precision.
  • Stock Solutions: Preparing stock solutions used in various tests.
  • Quality Controls (QCs) and Calibrators: Creating QCs and calibrators to ensure test accuracy.
  • Monitoring Expiration Dates: Keeping track of expiration dates of all prepared solutions and reagents.
  • Pipetting: Accurately pipetting solutions to ensure precise measurements.
  • Policy Compliance: Perform toxicology procedures following the laboratory's approved policies and procedures.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment following established operating procedures.
  • Equipment Checks: Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality controls.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment-related issues as they occur.
  • Participation: Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
  • Receiving and organizing new shipments: Accept deliveries and arrange new lab supplies.
  • Inventory tracking and restocking: Monitor and replenish high-use items weekly and monthly to ensure the lab remains well-stocked.

  • Perform other duties as required.
