Through an integrated "One Place, Many Specialists" model, clients are given coordinate access to therapy, psychiatry, and primary care – saving them time, money, and energy while improving outcomes across mood, health, and relationships. Basic Function Reporting to the Clinical leadership, the Clinician/Therapist is responsible for counseling individuals, groups, or families to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. The individual in this role will spend 80% of their time interacting with clients/patients and 20% of their time collaborating with others in the organization and administrative tasks. As part of an integrated care team, the Clinician/Therapist contributes to a collaborative model that connects mental health, psychiatry, and primary care to deliver comprehensive, coordinated support for clients.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of clinical experience in social work, mental health counseling, psychology, or a related field (experience may include supervised clinical hours completed during a residency or internship)
  • Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Current Virginia clinical license OR Residents/Supervisees working toward licensure and actively completing the required supervision hours for LPC, LCSW, or similar VA licensure
  • Effective Communicator - Consistently communicates with clarity and thoroughness to optimize audience understanding. Communicates information in a clear, concise, and timely manner. Demonstrates effective speaking and presentation skills.
  • Personal Effectiveness – Uses his/her time effectively and efficiently; sets priorities; values time, separates the critical few from the trivial many and concentrates his/her efforts accordingly. Achieves goals and meets commitments.
  • Problem Solving - Asks good questions and probes all sources for answers; sees underlying or hidden patterns; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers. Uses rigorous logic and methods to analyze and understand why problems occur; generates and implements creative, cost effective and realistic solutions.
  • Clinical Skill - Skill in modifying methods and techniques of clinical social work or counseling to provide appropriate therapeutic interventions and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.
  • Cultural Competence - Understand and respect the cultural beliefs, values, and backgrounds of clients. Demonstrate awareness of cultural biases and assumptions to avoid imposing them on clients. Ability to adapt therapeutic techniques to align with the cultural context of clients. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient status by obtaining health and mental health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assess presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; perform appropriate physical examinations
  • Seek additional information as needed, including consultation with clinical leadership, physicians, and other clinicians
  • Integrate assessment data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan
  • Identify health risks and clinical priorities
  • Develop evidence-based and professionally respected treatment plans
  • Implement treatment interventions and monitor progress
  • Instruct patient/family regarding medication and treatments
  • Provide education on health promotion ad illness prevention
  • Recommend appropriate community resources to support patient/family needs
  • Communicate case management information to other professionals and community agencies
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to manage acute and long-term medical needs, supporting the integrated model of care and ensuring seamless coordination across services
  • Provide continuity of care between visits, including triaging patient calls/emails within 24-48 hours
  • Prepare and update medical records within 72 hours, including assessments, test results, diagnoses, medications, and treatments
  • Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and quality assurance activities
  • Demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures
