About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Therapist provides mental health services to refugees and other eligible immigrants through the Services to Trauma Affected Refugees (STAR) program. The therapist provides both individual, group and family based services and collaborates with the STAR Specialist and Wellness Navigation teams to promote the overall wellness of program participants.

  • Master’s degree in related field and provisional license for LCSW, LMFT or LMHC. Provisional licensure may be considered.
  • Training/expertise in therapeutic interventions to provide clinical services to survivors of trauma, including, but not limited to TF-CBT and NET therapy.
  • Training/expertise in family therapy including but not limited to family systems approach.
  • Experience with database management and the maintenance of electronic files and records
  • Strong ability to work independently, remain focused and accomplish goals in a challenging, fluid and sometimes unpredictable environment
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to prioritize, multi-task, problem solve, organize, and attend to detail
  • Advanced cross-cultural fluency, with significant experience in cross-cultural environments and/or services
  • Demonstrate strong ability to work well on team in a synergistic work environment and to collaborate effectively across department and program areas
  • Ability to demonstrate strong, creative flexibility to engage obstacles and create pathways to achieve programmatic goals
  • Valid driver’s license, regular access to vehicle, and ability/willingness to drive clients to appointments
  • Flexible schedule to provide services once a week in late afternoon/early evening.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference for candidates who are fluent in at least one language spoken by refugees in Durham: Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Swahili, or Urdu.

Responsibilities

  • Provide therapeutic services to eligible individuals, couples, and families. Specific services include but are not limited to individualized treatment plans and in-home therapy interventions.
  • Execute evidence based psychosocial support groups for adults, children and families to support individual and family wellness goals.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers and Wellness Navigators to ensure shared clients make consistent progress toward identified goals.
  • Collaborate with STAR team to identify and execute community gatherings that reduce isolation and increase overall wellness of individuals and families.
  • Effectively utilize both in person and telephonic interpretation for the provision of therapeutic services
  • Deliver seminars to promote mental health awareness and de-stigmatization of mental health services in the refugee and immigrant community
  • Participate in regional collaborations to promote mental health services and access for refugee and immigrant clients
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education on refugee and immigrant mental health through attendance at appropriate conferences, workshops, and trainings.
  • Participate in data collection and outcome evaluation, as necessary for grant compliance and program sustainability.
  • Effectively maintain professional client records and record service data in an accurate and timely manner to ensure compliance with state and federal funders.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Services Manager in supervising and mentoring BSW and MSW interns
  • Other duties as assigned.
