The Cardiovascular and Vascular Intensive Care Units specialize in the post-operative acute care of patients requiring heart surgery, open and endovascular thoraco and abdominal aneurysm repairs, as well as thoracic and other vascular surgical procedures. All post-operative patients come directly from the operating room and are recovered, stabilized, weaned, and extubated in these units. The unit accepts complex patients from other facilities that may have had surgical complications, or those needing further evaluation for patients that other facilities may not have considered to be surgical candidates. The patient population is diverse with complex medical problems that may require IABP therapy, CRRT, and thrombolytic therapy. A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am—7:30pm.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before or within new hire period
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
  • Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience
  • Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an 8th grade level
  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.
  • All offers of employment are followed by testing for controlled substances.

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
