About The Position

Clinical Teaching Fellows will form part of the Undergraduate Teaching team delivering clinical hospital based education to 3rd, 4th and 5th Year medical students from the University of Birmingham and Aston Medical Schools and clinical hospital based education to 1st and 2nd year physician assistant students from the University of Birmingham, Aston University and Keele University. All full and comprehensive understand of the Mbchb curriculum working in an NHS hospital is essential. CTFs will work 80% education with a 20% clinical allocation in a chosen specialty. Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTFs) will deliver bedside teaching, large group lectures, small group teaching sessions and simulation sessions to all medical and physician assistant students placed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust in accordance to the specific universities curriculum. CTFs will assist with OSCE preparation and examination. CTFs work within a teaching team consisting of doctors, nurses and physician assistants offering full team support to each other and all students along with full support to the administration team. CTFs will also offer mentoring and pastoral support to allocated groups of students. Requirements

  • All full and comprehensive understand of the Mbchb curriculum working in an NHS hospital is essential.
  • Please be advised that if the post that you are applying for requires any level of qualification (e.g. A-Levels, Degree etc) or Professional Registration (e.g. Nursing and Midwifery Council, General Medical Council etc) you will be required to provide proof as part of the pre-employment process.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of clinical teaching of undergraduate medical students attached to New Cross Hospital.
  • Assist with the organisation and delivery of year 3, 4, and 5 OCSE’s held at the trust.
  • Deliver teaching to Physician Assistant Students on their placements.
  • Be familiar with the Electronic curriculum for Physician Assistant students and to be available to facilitate student’s self-directed learning.
  • Deliver teaching to different groups of 3rd, 4th and 5th year students, helping them to achieve clearly defined learning objectives.
  • Fully support the Year 3 programme offering bedside and small group teaching on a weekly basis.
  • Support year 4 students by meeting weekly.
  • Support the Year 5 curriculum is predominately delivered by the Undergraduate Teaching Team.
  • Finalise any audit and research projects and spend their time on clinical activities, covering holiday absences, attending relevant operating sessions and out-patient clinics.
  • Leading and participating in SimWard sessions is encouraged.
  • Embark on or continue further training in medical education with a view to achieving a Certificate in Postgraduate Medical Education which will be funded by the Faculty of Undergraduate Education.
  • Present at national, and international medical education meetings.
  • Provide further training in preparation for application for training posts, a clinical attachment will be arranged to provide further experience in a specialty to be agreed at interview.
  • Take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.
  • Observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
  • Participate in research or an audit project would be strongly encouraged related either to medical education or medical or surgical specialties with a view to presenting at national meetings and in publications.
  • Participate in all aspects of clinical governance.
  • Support the clinical services as necessary, possibly at short notice.
  • Any other duties as deemed
