About The Position

The Clinical Support Specialist provides direct patient care and support to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health conditions across multiple levels of care. Working within a multidisciplinary team, this role is responsible for facilitating admissions, supporting clinical programming, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Clinical Support Specialist plays a vital role in creating a structured, therapeutic environment while promoting patient dignity, engagement, and continuity of care.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or a GED with 2+ years of full time Behavioral Health work experience (preferred) OR Associate’s Degree and at least 2 years of full time Behavioral Health work experience OR Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to Behavioral Health
  • Required: Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to hire
  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
  • Manual dexterity using computer keyboard.
  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching.
  • Some lifting may be required.
  • Frequent and prolonged typing and frequent and prolonged operation of computer, keyboard, and telephones required.
  • Requires occasional use of fax machines, telephones, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient-centered support through empathetic, ethical, and professional interactions that promote dignity, independence, and individualized care
  • Recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
  • Identify, prevent, and appropriately respond to crisis situations, including risk of harm to self or others, aggressive behavior, or medical emergencies
  • Conduct admissions processes, including intake assessments and collection of clinical screenings such as urine drug screens, pregnancy tests, fentanyl testing, and breath alcohol levels (BAL)
  • Perform body searches, skin checks, and property searches in accordance with facility policy, ensuring proper handling, documentation, and storage of patient belongings
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing support of individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the clinical team
  • Verify and document patient demographic and insurance information at admission and during transitions between levels of care
  • Maintain consistent communication with referral sources and internal treatment teams using designated systems and platforms
  • Complete all required admissions documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring accuracy and data integrity
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments (BPS), GAD-7, PHQ-9, and ASAM assessments within 24 hours of admission, and provide updates as clinically indicated
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to all safety protocols, reporting incidents per policy, and maintaining awareness of the environment of care
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups in collaboration with the treatment team, adapting material to meet patient needs and group dynamics
  • Monitor patient engagement and behavior within the milieu, supporting structure and therapeutic programming
  • Coordinate care activities with detox, residential, and outpatient clinical teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Document all patient interactions and services in the medical record within required timeframes (within 24 hours of service delivery)
  • Uphold all regulatory, ethical, and professional standards, including HIPAA compliance and confidentiality requirements
  • Support patients in identifying risk factors, understanding symptoms, and connecting with appropriate resources to promote recovery
  • Collaborate effectively with behavioral health staff and providers to support overall treatment goals
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
