Labor and Delivery We provide clinically advanced, personalized childbirth services with a collaborative approach with Advanced Practitioners and Providers. As a teaching and research hospital, advanced science is accessible for the most challenging birth situations. WHAT YOU WILL DO Provides shift to shift oversight for clinical practice, staffing, patient flow, safety, service, and utilization of resources for daily operations. Maintains the environment of care. Provides care to patients in a competent, capable, caring and efficient manner. Care provided is appropriate to the age of the patients served. Role models organizational values Provides real-time feedback to staff to improve performance Leads/Participates in department process improvement to improve projects outcomes Leadership Responsibilities Evaluates daily clinical practice against defined standards and provides constructive feedback and preventative counseling to staff Acts as a resource for employees on matters of clinical practice and issue resolution Clearly communicates organizational and department messages to staff Participates in the development of long- and short-range goals for the department and services that are consistent with goals and objectives of the hospital Assists Nurse Manager in monitoring, confirming, educating staff of safety procedures and regulatory compliance. Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate corrective action and escalates concerns when needed. Participates in hiring process and helps coordinate peer interviews Patient Experience Observes that patient engagement and safety strategies (use of communication boards, hourly rounding, bedside shift report, multidisciplinary rounds, care bundles etc.) are consistently practiced. Provides staff and manager feedback on the quality and consistency of these practices. Oversee patient callbacks. Participates in daily leader rounding to assess satisfaction with the patient experience Communicates department patient experience results and action plans to staff People Responsibilities Respond to employee concerns as they are identified and escalate concerns to the Nurse Manager as needed In collaboration with Nurse Manager develops action plans (based on data analysis) that result in improvement in employee engagement data with sustained improvement over time Provides employees with clarity about expectations and clear feedback about performance; deals with performance problems in an appropriate and timely way and escalates concerns to the Nurse Manager as needed Participate in unit-based professional governance In collaboration with Nurse Manager and Educator(s) coordinate unit-based orientation and selection of preceptors and supports on boarding of new employees Quality, Safety, Compliance Responsibilities Contributes to the development of department-based quality/process improvement plans and supports the implementation of improvement strategies and evidence-based practice changes and monitor the effectiveness of improvement efforts. Participate in lead daily management and other improvement projects. Daily evaluation of clinical care to ensure safety, reduce complications, and improve patient outcomes Finance Responsibilities Ensures daily staffing is aligned with the budgeted staffing plan and clinical needs of patients. Monitors daily productivity Assists with staffing and patient flow beds each shift, proactively forecasts staffing needs Utilizes a proactive approach to patient transfers and discharges; works with Case Management and clinical partners to identify barriers to and ensure a timely and efficient transfer/hospital discharge Monitors appropriate use of supplies and equipment Provider Partnership Demonstrate actions that reflect a pro-active approach to identify and respond to physician issue Provides feedback to residents and attending providers about clinical practice Works with providers to facilitate effective plans of care Facilitates partnership to improve practice outcomes via interdisciplinary rounds Responds to provider feedback and resolves concerns by end of shift or escalates issues as needed

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • Professional experience that demonstrates ability to understand the clinical practice environment.
  • Successful completion of unit specific certifications (PALS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, chemotherapy certification, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year charge nurse experience preferred
  • 2 years clinical nursing experience preferred
  • Certification in specialty preferred
  • Member of professional practice organization pertinent to area of practice preferred
