About The Position

The George Washington University Hospital is a 395-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC. Featuring a Level I Trauma Center and a Level III NICU, GW Hospital offers clinical expertise in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, women's health, and advanced surgery including robotic and minimally invasive surgery. The mission of GW Hospital is to provide the highest quality health care, advanced medical technology and world-class service to its patients in an academic medical center dedicated to education and research. Physicians are independent practitioners who are not employees or agents of The George Washington University Hospital. The hospital shall not be liable for actions or treatments provided by physicians. Our ICU Units at GW Hospital include Medical ICU (MICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), and Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU). We are seeking a dynamic and experienced ICU Clinical Supervisor to join our team. This role involves supervising ICU staff, ensuring high standards of patient care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support clinical excellence. As a Clinical Supervisor, you will also act as a mentor, leader, and resource for nursing staff while maintaining the operational integrity of the unit.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in Washington, DC (or eligible to obtain before start date).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Management preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of ICU nursing experience.
  • Previous leadership or charge nurse experience in an ICU setting preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and staff assignments in the ICU.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to nursing staff to ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Monitor quality metrics and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of staff education and training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and evaluating ICU staff performance.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and staff within the ICU.
