About The Position

The Float Clinical Staff Nurse is an integral part of the health care team. The Float Nurse assists the health care team in a professional manner in the community health center setting. Responsibilities include administering quality nursing care, immunizations and health education to patients of all ages in accordance with established nursing standards, assisting in the lab and pharmacy as appropriate, and working with all health center personnel to ensure an efficient and safe environment of care. This position is responsible for floating between clinics to ensure coverage.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current unrestricted license from the Kansas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification.
  • Approval of credentials and privileges by the Center board.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention and motivation.
  • Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Center’s current operational protocols.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to a patient’s needs.
  • Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, Center staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare statistical and administrative reports.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with community agency personnel, insurance carriers to coordinate services for patients.
  • Ability to use a glucometer and interpret the results.
  • Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers.
  • Ability to prioritize and allocate resources.
  • Develop rapport with patients and their families, community and other health care personnel.

  • Work successfully independently and within a team, shifting tasks, prioritize tasks, problem-solve daily, and complete work within deadline

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of practice experience as an RN giving direct patient care
  • Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining clinical expertise and competency (to include age specific competency) as well as demonstrating thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary health care.
  • Documenting delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with the Center’s policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
  • Educating the patient and family/significant others about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acting as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
  • Coordinating the delivery of patient care provided by the health care team. Assisting with case management needs as identified by providers.
  • Interacting with health center personnel and assisting providers to ensure optimal patient care and to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction.
  • Identifying and responding promptly to changes in patient’s condition and/or clinic environment.
  • Coordinating and delegating the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient.
  • Acting as a resource within the clinic to other clinical staff members in regards to patient care.
  • Participating as a team member and promoting teamwork by assisting others with patient care and department activities.
  • Maintaining adequate inventory of medical forms, supplies, in-house medications, STD medications and immunizations and completing monthly inventory reports as required.
  • Performing maintenance and controls on medical equipment and documents results.
  • Administering all medications accurately using the five (5) rights of medication administration and documenting medications according to health center policy and procedures.
  • Upon completion of laboratory skill assessment, performing all laboratory functions according to Provider orders consistent with CLIA standards.
  • Assuming responsibility/accountability for delegating, directing, and overseeing patient care activities and clinical efficiency of clinical support staff.
  • Identifying and participating in Performance Improvement opportunities.
  • Serving as a resource and positive, proactive leader for the department.
  • Accepting responsibility for remaining current with nursing and health care trends and information that impact nursing practice.
  • Screening and responding to in person and phone triage.
  • Participating in collaboration with the health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.
  • Participating in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.
  • Participating in the evaluation of health care at the Center and in monitoring health outcomes of patients.
  • Assisting in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
  • Is familiar with and abides by OSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials, Universal Precautions, use of personal protective equipment, Evacuation, Fire, Disaster, and Safety Plans.
  • Coordinating and monitoring performance evaluation metrics of clinical support staff.
