About The Position

The position is within the Pharmacy Services department at Dell Children's Medical Center, located in Austin, Texas. This is a full-time role scheduled from Monday to Friday. The pharmacist will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas such as nuclear medicine, oncology, and cardiology. The role includes serving as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and providing guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership. The pharmacist will also review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug-related problems, recommend formulary alternatives, compound and dispense medications, and provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients. Additionally, the pharmacist will communicate with physicians and other clinicians, oversee technical personnel, assist with academic functions, and provide patient counseling when required.

Requirements

  • Pharmacist credentialed from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Pharmacy required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years IV room experience strongly preferred.
  • Board certification in sterile compounding (BCSCP) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assure the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, cardiology.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provide guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership.
  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems.
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compound and dispense medications for accurate delivery to patients.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
  • Oversee technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
  • Assist with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students.
  • May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs.
  • Provide patient counseling when required.
