About The Position

The Student Counseling Social Worker will provide intake/initial clinical assessment, treatment recommendations, and long- and short-term psychotherapeutic and counseling intervention to clients. The Student Counseling Social Worker also provides group psychotherapy, post-crisis coordination of ongoing clinical care, outreach, and preventative programming. In addition, the Social Worker provides appropriate documentation of all clinical care, consultation to faculty and staff regarding students, and crisis assessment and referral as needed. Shifts will include some early evening hours two days a week, based on clinical and staffing needs. There is no after-hours on-call requirement. The Social Worker participates in SCS staff meetings and Student Affairs meetings and represents SCS on various University/Department committees. The ideal candidate must have a strong interest in and enthusiasm for working with students, especially those in the health professions and graduate sciences; an interest in working with students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds; cultural competency in all aspects of clinical care; and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • M.S.W., L.M.S.W., L.C.S.W. or eligible
  • 3 years relevant post-masters experience (preferably in an outpatient care setting) required
  • New M.S.W. graduates who are L.M.S.W. eligible will be considered for appointment to entry-level (SL2) positions at a commensurate salary after obtaining a Limited Permit.
  • Must obtain L.M.S.W. within 12 months of receipt of the limited permit.

Nice To Haves

  • LCSW or LMSW with 3-5 years post-graduate experience providing outpatient psychotherapy to adults.
  • Two or more years of post-graduate experience providing individual outpatient therapy to undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Experience with short-term/problem-focused models of therapy.
  • Experience providing group therapy and preventive/outreach programming.
  • Experience/expertise in assessing and treating disordered eating, trauma, and/or substance abuse.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with clients from marginalized and diverse backgrounds
