About The Position

Mayo Clinic has a full-time Social Worker position within the Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic (TISCC) department. The mission of TISCC is to provide specialty, multidisciplinary, person-affirming care for transgender, gender diverse and intersex individuals in a safe and respectful environment, while optimizing physical, emotional, and social health. The TISCC is a premier clinic serving transgender, gender diverse and intersex individuals by providing the Mayo Clinic model of integrated care, promoting better health for patients and advancing the science of transgender and intersex medicine. The clinic follows the standards of care of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which indicates providers follow professional consensus related to transgender health, and have a working understanding of the multidisciplinary care team and how to translate the standards of care into clinical practice. In this vital role you will: Conducts diagnostic assessments, determine clinical interventions, facilitates crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy and provide education for patients and their families. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems. Participates in the development and implementation of treatment and transition plans. Function as an interdisciplinary team member. Function within the research, practice, and education shields at Mayo Clinic. Comply with required medical and legal standards, serving as a resource to allied and administrative staff within the Section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing. This position includes specified billable patient contact hours, depending on the assigned unit or site.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Two years of supervised therapy experience in behavioral health or medical social work, including diagnostic assessment, individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Licensure to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable state requirements (e.g., LCSW, LICSW).
  • Valid driver's license is required for specific areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience with the population to be served is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of mental illness, personality development, and various types of treatment, along with skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Knowledge of adjustment to medical diagnoses and chronic disease.
  • Strong communication skills are needed to interact with patients, patients' family members, multidisciplinary teams, community agencies, and other resources.
