About The Position

Social Worker/Counselor will support the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Weight Management Center (WMC) at existing locations in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point, North Carolina. The candidate’s time will vary across these locations primarily via telehealth interventions. Delivery of in-person behavioral health services may also be required at any of these locations. The candidate will provide behavioral health interventions and counseling services to a variety of adult patients with chronic medical conditions, particularly as they relate to the treatment of obesity and associated metabolic conditions. Such services will include, but are not limited to: psychosocial intake assessments, brief behavioral/solution focused interventions, support group leadership, empirically supported treatment group leadership, and individual counseling. Services will be provided within the context of an interdisciplinary treatment model and the candidate will, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, assist with the development of comprehensive treatment plans to meet short- and longer-term health and behavioral health needs. The candidate will also participate in the development and delivery of new, innovative behavioral health treatment programs/protocols for patients at the WMC. Opportunities to lead team didactics/psychoeducational presentations and supervise counseling/social work trainees will also be available. The successful applicant will be skilled at interacting in a fast-paced, dynamic interdisciplinary setting that involves regular participation in team meetings and communication with interdisciplinary care providers.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an institution accredited by the associated licensing board is required.
  • Clinical social work/counseling experience working in a medical/behavioral health setting with clinical diagnosis and treatment responsibilities strongly preferred.
  • Full clinical licensure in the state of North Carolina through the Social Work Certification and Licensure Board, Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, or Marriage and Family Licensure Board required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of DSM-V criteria
  • Demonstrates proficiency in knowledge and implementation of empirically supported behavioral health interventions
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide culturally competent and diversity-sensitive care to patients
  • Proficiency using a personal computer
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Establishes positive working relationships and works to reduce workplace conflict
  • Embraces change in a rapidly changing health care environment

Responsibilities

  • Completes psychosocial assessment in accordance with departmental and professional standards to identify emotional, social and environmental needs related to diagnosis, illness, treatment and life situation.
  • Works with patients to provide individual and group behavioral health interventions in conjunction with the health care team.
  • Participates in team meetings and interdisciplinary care, in conjunction with physician and other team members to identify treatment plans.
  • Provides consultation services and leads psychoeducation didactics for interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Develops and implements innovative behavioral health treatment programs/protocols as is needed for patient care.
  • Participates in recruitment, curriculums, supervision, schedules, and clinical experiences for behavioral health trainees and serves as a liaison to schools to maintain and promote new training relationships.
  • Stays abreast of various training and licensing requirements and implements appropriate strategies and protocols in training program to ensure compliance with these requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state and local mental health system in order to facilitate ethical treatment planning and referrals. Upon request, consults with other mental health professionals and the health care team re: referral processes for community based mental health services.
  • Advocates for additional state and federal resources in the continuum of mental health services.
  • Documents according to Departmental and licensure standards.
