About The Position

The Clinical Services Manager (CSM) is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily operations of the Labor & Delivery Unit (E5), including patient care and unit business processes. UAMS Labor and Delivery unit is located in the Harry P. Ward Clinical Tower. The unit consists of 14 LDR rooms, four triage observational beds, two operating rooms suites, a three bed recovery room area and two state of the art Neonatal Stabilization rooms used to stabilize acutely ill neonates with specially trained staff from the Intensive Care Nursery. Labor and Delivery provides high-risk obstetrical care for patients all over the state. The LDR rooms allow the expectant mother to labor, deliver, and recover in the birthing suites with family support. E5 Labor and Delivery supports patient and family centered care and as a result, the newborns, if stable, are allowed to stay with their mother’s after delivery to promote bonding

Requirements

  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in the field of Nursing, with at least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid Registered Nurse license
  • Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains awareness of unit status and potential problems by functioning as a working supervisor.
  • Serves as a liaison with Director and Administration, exchanging information and identifying problems or needs related to clinical activity.
  • Participates on ad hoc committees, as required, to develop plans related to unit issues.
  • Demonstrates effective analytical abilities to identify unit needs that require intervention and/or revision.
  • Participates in daily unit activity to coordinate unit functions and facilitate problem solving.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and delegation skills to accomplish unit activity within work schedule restrains.
  • Plans measurable unit-related goals and objectives as guidelines for performance.
  • Develops an understanding of the functions of each primary campus departments.
  • Assumes responsibility for successfully fulfilling the standards of licensing and crediting agencies.
  • Develops, interprets, and implements policies, guidelines, protocol, job descriptions, and performance appraisals annually.
  • Interviews, hires, and orients new employees; documents orientation of each new employee, coordinating with personnel and adhering to UAMS policy.
  • Coordinates timely completion of personnel records, including employee promotions/transfers and new employee hiring.
  • Uses both formal and informal evaluation processes to reward or modify employee behavior.
  • Demonstrates good managerial judgment in assigning duties appropriate to each individual, and by conducting all aspects of supervision in a fair, consistent, objective, and professional manner.
  • Maintains a current awareness of the abilities and limitations of each staff member.
  • Monitors and documents tardiness and absenteeism.
  • Coordinates scheduling of leave time.
  • Produces biweekly payroll and maintains documentation of employee time benefits used.
  • Maintains adequate staffing pattern, adjusting assignments and coordination with other Managers as necessary.
  • Supervises and implements Quality Assurance studies, provides reports to appropriate personnel, analyzes and identifies critical factors of patient care to facilitate enhancement of the quality of patient care offered.
  • Conducts annual needs assessment with staff.
  • Participates in formal development of maintenance, capital equipment and staff budgets.
  • Submits documented plan for any physical plant renovation or repair as necessary.
  • Demonstrates cost-conscious awareness by comparing/analyzing unit expenditures monthly against general ledger and effectively utilizing staff, space, and supplies within budgetary restraints.
  • Initiates purchase of new equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares statistical/narrative reports as requested.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
