About The Position

UnityPoint Health is seeking a dedicated RN, LPN, or CMA to join our Family Medicine Buena Vista team. This position offers a competitive salary and a $5,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates. The role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medical assisting or nursing.
  • Maintain current Iowa license as a Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse.
  • Mandatory Reporter certification or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Meets educational/competency requirements per policy.
  • Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
  • Computer data entry experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Able to write, read, comprehend, and speak fluent English.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information and preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in the clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
  • Track follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to monitor patients' disease status.
  • Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider.
  • Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-10 coding.
  • Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members.
  • Document appropriately and timely in the patient’s electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
  • Provide information to appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., health department).
  • Understand testing (lab and procedures) values and their relationship to patient status, taking next steps as appropriate to scope and licensure.
  • Stay informed about clinic/department and organizational updates by attending meetings and checking the organization’s intranet site.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.
  • Monitor environmental conditions to secure protected health information.
  • Behave in accordance with all Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open to others' views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Clinic Administrator to facilitate smooth and effective office operations.
