About The Position

The Clinical Risk Manager at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) plays a pivotal role in the Quality & Safety team, focusing on the operation of the patient safety risk management program. This position is under the leadership of MSK's Division of Quality & Safety and works closely with the Departmental Quality Assurance (QA) teams and MSK Legal. The Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining systems to detect, monitor, prevent, and measure patient adverse events, malpractice claims, and other indicators of potential patient harm. This role is essential in guiding clinical staff on risk identification and mitigation, ensuring that MSK remains at the forefront of improving health outcomes and patient safety. The Clinical Risk Manager will manage the development and implementation of the MSK-wide Risk Management Program, coordinating risk management activities and patient safety efforts across the organization. This includes promoting Risk Management and Patient Safety programs to all staff and physicians, evaluating areas of organizational risk, and implementing strategies to enhance patient and staff safety. The role also involves educating and training staff on procedures, documentation, reporting, and follow-up in key areas of risk management interest, while keeping abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes. In addition to program management, the Clinical Risk Manager will evaluate incidents for severity and frequency, ensuring thorough investigations of potentially compensable events and claims. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Quality & Safety and MSK Legal, to review serious occurrences and provide expert advice on managing and reporting such events. The Clinical Risk Manager will also analyze risk management trends and patterns, communicating findings effectively to stakeholders and participating in committees aimed at improving quality and safety within the organization.
