About The Position

The Buck Institute for Research on Aging is seeking a part-time Clinical Research Technician to support the Newman Lab’s clinical trial team. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, technically skilled, and interested in contributing to human clinical research in a dynamic translational science environment. This position supports an observational, longitudinal study designed to map and characterize human biorhythms. The Technician will assist with study visits, participant assessments, biospecimen collection and processing, laboratory preparation, and study documentation. The role is essential to the accurate execution of research procedures and the integrity of study data, with all work conducted in accordance with IRB-approved protocols, Good Clinical Practice, and established standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interest in biology, physiology, health sciences, clinical research, or a related field
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow research protocols and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work on-site during part-time weekday day and evening shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Prior laboratory, clinical, or clinical research experience
  • Experience working with human subjects research
  • Experience with phlebotomy or other clinical procedures

Responsibilities

  • Assist with standardized participant assessments during study visits, including anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, body composition, and waist circumference
  • Assist with collection of vital signs, including heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, and blood pressure
  • Support physical testing procedures, including cardiopulmonary exercise testing, spirometry, grip strength testing, and leg press testing
  • Support challenge visits, including oral glucose tolerance testing and maximal exercise testing
  • Assist with study wearables and devices, including setup, issuance, maintenance, and data synchronization for tools such as continuous glucose monitors, smart wristbands, smart rings, and smart scales
  • Assist with administration and scoring of selected study questionnaires and cognitive testing materials
  • Maintain accurate and complete case report forms and source documentation
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, collection kits, and supplies needed for study procedures
  • Assist with collection and handling of biospecimens, including venous blood, urine, buccal swabs, stool samples, and vaginal swabs
  • Support biospecimen processing, labeling, storage, and inventory management
  • Package and ship biospecimens to certified external clinical laboratories for analysis
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical and laboratory environment
  • Support study compliance activities, including maintenance of training records and study documentation
  • Follow IRB-approved protocols, Good Clinical Practice guidelines, and standard operating procedures
