About The Position

The Clinical Research Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient flow of participants through the Clinical Translational and Science Unit by assisting with document management, protocol related clinical assessments of research participants, laboratory functions and assisting in tasks related to the operations of the research clinic.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Excellent bedside manner when dealing with study participants.
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot skills

Nice To Haves

  • IV Certification
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • CITI training

Responsibilities

  • Training, mentorship for team members and study teams.
  • Assigned unit administrative support (inventory, ordering, billing, scheduling).
  • Assist Principal Investigators, physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations within competency requirements.
  • Plan, provide, and document professional medical assistant care for participants in accordance with study protocols, flow sheets, Good Clinical Practice, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), scope of practice and other state and local regulations as applicable.
  • Ensure data collected for completed procedures is recorded on appropriate forms and participant research records.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stock assigned areas and monitor levels of supplies.
  • Check and complete required logs and equipment such as refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, and other required checks.
  • Perform phlebotomy and sample collection, lab processing, handling, and shipping as outlined in study protocols and within KUMC policy.
  • Perform vital signs, height, weight and ECG’s.
  • Ensure all required consent forms are obtained prior to any research activities.
  • Support and encourage a cooperative work environment.
  • Engage with customers in a professional manner ensuring that customers (participants, study teams, visitors, etc.) are satisfied with services provided.
