About The Position

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Morristown Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Medical Student for a Clinical Research Associate research fellowship designed to significantly strengthen applications to competitive orthopaedic surgery residency programs. This fellowship emphasizes high-impact academic productivity, close mentorship, and national exposure within a focused academic environment. Mentorship & Leadership Exposure The fellow will work directly with the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery, Harpal Khanuja, MD, with a primary focus on hip and knee arthroplasty research. This structure provides exceptional access to mentorship, career guidance, and potential for strong letters of recommendation from department leadership. Research Experience The fellow will be involved in all phases of research, including: Study design and hypothesis development Literature review and database research Data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation Manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals Abstract submission and preparation for regional and national meetings The expectation is meaningful authorship and presentation, not observational research. Academic & Clinical Integration In addition to research responsibilities, the fellow will: Participate in orthopaedic resident didactics Work closely with residents and faculty Observe in orthopaedic clinics and operating rooms Additional Opportunities Attendance and presentation at regional and national orthopaedic meetings Opportunity to participate in an international Operation Walk medical mission Ideal Candidate Strong commitment to orthopaedic surgery Highly motivated and academically driven Seeking publications, national exposure, and close mentorship Fellowship Outcomes Peer-reviewed publications and national presentations Advanced research skills and academic development Deep exposure to academic orthopaedic surgery A significantly strengthened residency application

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled medical student
  • Must have completed 2nd year of Medical School
  • Strong commitment to orthopaedic surgery
  • Highly motivated and academically driven
  • Seeking publications, national exposure, and close mentorship
