Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit, required.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an inpatient Telemetry Unit, Progressive Care Unit or equivalent Step-down Critical Care Unit for Transitional RN Program.
  • Successful Completion of Critical Care Curriculum during Program.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling complex cases.
  • Proficient in operating advanced critical care related equipment and technology.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and critical care related pharmacology.
  • Understanding in managing Procedural sterile fields and ensuring adherence to procedural protocols.
  • Rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to dynamic cases.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with the ICU team, patients, and families.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), or equivalent certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the interprofessional health care team to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered, timely and equitable care.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patient-specific needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient interventional responses ensuring swift follow-up as needed.
  • Act as patient advocate and protect patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care provided by all health care team members, including oneself, and contribution of systems and environment in progressing patients toward desired outcomes.
  • Provide education to patients and families about medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Advocate for evidence-based practices in ICU care.
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hospital policies.
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Comply with hospital and regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission and OSHA guidelines.
  • Adhere to facility policies to ensure safe care. Identify and report safety concerns; demonstrate willingness to address pervasive systemic issues.
  • Accurately document care measures, interventions, patient progress, and any incidents in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide preceptorship and mentorship to New Graduate Nurses, New Hires, and students, fostering their professional development.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including continuing education, certifications, workshops and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the ICU department.
  • Function in the charge nurse & Rapid Response Team (RRT) role as needed.
  • Act decisively in critical situations, such as cardiac arrest, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and composure under pressure.
