About The Position

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Clinical Psychologist for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to serve as an advanced clinician in a forensic psychiatric hospital, serving mentally ill patients who have been determined Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) or Unfit to Stand Trial (UST). Administers, scores, and interprets psychological tests and writes comprehensive reports based on findings to request advanced court ordered privileges. Conducts group and individual psychotherapy. Makes diagnostic classifications and clarifications. Testifies in criminal and court hearings.

Requirements

  • Requires current license as a Clinical Psychologist by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires ability to perform and deliver mouth to mask CPR and manual resuscitation.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires physical ability to access various worksites throughout the hospital to attend meetings.
  • Requires ability to pass CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training within the probationary period.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires the ability to meet the requirements for credentialing and privileging as a consulting member of the medical staff of Alton Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an advanced clinician in a forensic psychiatric hospital, serving mentally ill patients who have been determined NGRI or UST.
  • Conducts individual and group psychotherapy counseling sessions with patients.
  • Serves as adjunct member of all treatment teams, participates in treatment planning conferences and professional reports and reviews.
  • Develops behavioral management plans for those patients who exhibit maladaptive behavior.
  • Serves on a variety of hospital and statewide committees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
