About The Position

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking a pediatric psychologist specializing in working with patients and their families who require kidney and liver transplants. The psychologist will support patients and families throughout the entire transplantation process, from identifying the need for transplantation and/or dialysis through post-transplantation care. The role also involves providing back-up support to the heart transplant psychologist. The Brendan Tripp Elam Transplant Center is a leading center known for high volume liver, kidney, and heart transplants with excellent long-term outcomes, caring for complex patients. The transplant team is multidisciplinary, including surgeons, physicians, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, and child life specialists. The psychologist will be a member of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health and integrate within the Brendan Tripp Elam Transplant Center. The position involves a blend of inpatient and outpatient treatment, with opportunities for program development as transplant services expand. It includes teaching in pediatric medical and psychology training programs, protected academic time for service, research, and scholarly activities, and faculty mentoring. An academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience, is part of this role. The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health is expanding as part of the institution’s Mental and Behavioral Health Strategic Plan.

Requirements

  • A PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology, pediatric psychology, clinical child psychology, or related field
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship and/or post-doctoral fellowship with clinical child and adolescent psychology as a major area of study
  • Eligibility for clinical psychology licensure in Missouri and Kansas
  • Seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment
  • Willingness to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005
