About The Position

The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) is an academic unit within the College of Health Sciences, designated as a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), and includes a small interdisciplinary faculty. A key faculty role is that of the Clinical Professor, Assistant. The Clinical Professor is an appointment granted to individuals who hold terminal qualification in their disciplines, and who have demonstrated ability and appropriate experience, to make significant teaching contributions in health care and disability through programs at WIND. Candidates should hold a terminal degree (minimal master's level) in Communication Disorders with current license in the field, and professional certification from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Candidates should have strong clinical expertise in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) with the ability to translate experience into curriculum and instruction, providing evidence of legal, ethical, and professional behavior.

Requirements

  • Masters in communication disorders
  • Current license in the field
  • Professional certification from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • At least 2 years working as speech language pathologist
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessment and implementation
  • Strong oral and written communication

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver continuing education/professional development courses/trainings in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) with emphasis on early intervention.
  • Deliver continuing education/professional development courses/trainings in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) assessment and implementation.
  • Provide demonstration services for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT).
  • Direct activities of the Wyoming Community of Practice in Augmenative and Alternative Communication.
  • Provide clinical support/education in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) to College of Health Sciences, Division of Communication disorders, College of Education, Teacher Education/Special Education.
  • Provide clinical support in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to programs, agencies, or organizations, professionals, and/or AAC users/family members.
  • Provide technical assistance for funding speech generating devices.
  • Serve on departmental, college, university, and professional/regional/national or Association of University Centers on Disability committees.
  • Maintain professional license within Wyoming as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Maintain membership and clinical certificate of competency with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
