The Clinical Practice Specialist (CPS) is a professional nurse, an expert practitioner in nursing and a member of the nursing leadership team who implements the mission and philosophy of Northeast Hospital Corporation. The CPS promotes safe care for patients by keeping patient safety as a focus of all unit operations and clinical practices. The principal role of this position is to ensure that clinical practice is consistent with standards and evidence-based policies and procedures. The CPS serves as a consultant, teacher and role model to all Nursing Staff and the novice workforce. The CPS contributes to the delivery of patient care through development and support of nursing staff, collaboration with patients and their families and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The CPS is the nursing champion to the medical staff and collaborates with the highest degree of competency in the area of nursing research and nursing professional practice. As an expert in clinical practice, the CPS functions in the role domains of clinical practice, consultation, education, research / clinical outcomes and population management drawn from the highest standards of evidenced-based benchmarks and practice. The CPS supervises clinical practice of the staff, and empowers nursing staff through education, consultation, clinical support and the development of supportive programs and standards of care. The CPS proactively recommends improvements in standards of practice. This person serves as an advisor to direct care providers and participates in special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safe care for patients by focusing on patient safety in all unit operations and clinical practices.
  • Ensure clinical practice is consistent with standards and evidence-based policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a consultant, teacher, and role model to all Nursing Staff and novice workforce.
  • Contribute to the delivery of patient care through development and support of nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with patients, their families, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Act as the nursing champion to the medical staff.
  • Function in the domains of clinical practice, consultation, education, research/clinical outcomes, and population management.
  • Supervise clinical practice of the staff and empower nursing staff through education and consultation.
  • Recommend improvements in standards of practice.
  • Serve as an advisor to direct care providers and participate in special projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing is required, or currently enrolled in program.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS certification preferred or to be obtained within 6 months.
  • National certification in specialty nursing is preferred.
  • Nursing education and quality improvement experience preferred.
  • Member of relevant professional organization.
  • Current knowledge of evidence-based practice including national standards and guidelines.
  • Participation in relevant professional development activities.
  • Demonstrates high degree of independence and decision-making.
  • Ability to address clinical problems by analyzing, synthesizing, and integrating current research and best practice models.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to coordinate and provide interdisciplinary educational programs utilizing various modalities.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
