About The Position

The Clinical Practice Nurse Expert I (CPNE I) at MUSC is responsible for overseeing clinical practice within their designated unit, collaborating with the Unit Manager and a multi-disciplinary team to enhance patient care and safety. This role focuses on developing quality care initiatives, improving patient outcomes, and implementing evidence-based practices. The CPNE I is expected to assess clinical practices, lead quality improvement strategies, and provide education and support to nursing staff.

Requirements

  • BSN required and completion of MSN or graduate degree in related field acceptable from an accredited college/university within two years.
  • Three years of clinical experience in area of expertise required.
  • Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Excellent collaboration and consultation skills required.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills required.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with quality improvement methodology.

  • Advanced certification in a specialized field.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clinical practice on their respected unit(s) through rounding, observation, and staffing.
  • Collaborate with ICCE stakeholders and unit leadership to align quality initiatives with health system goals.
  • Use performance measures to identify and assess the delivery of evidence-based practices and promote outcomes that demonstrate delivery of higher-value care.
  • Partner with Nurse Manager to develop strategies to promote quality outcomes within the unit.
  • Implement quality improvement strategies based on current evidence, analytics, and risk anticipation.
  • Partner with Quality and Safety to apply just culture principles and safety tools to decrease risk.
  • Assess patient handoffs and transitions of care to improve outcomes.
  • Assess medication reconciliation and administration processes to enhance safe medication use.
  • Use various datasets to assess individual and population risks and care outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data to generate evidence for nursing practice and identify evidence-based interventions.
