Job Description Summary The Clinical Practice Leader - Speech Language Pathology will act as a liaison between research and speech and language pathology professionals and oversees the implementation of appropriate current research into speech and language pathology practice throughout the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab) system of care. The Clinical Practice Leader oversees staff development for that area. The Clinical Practice Leader - Speech Language Pathology will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute. Requirements

  • Level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Current Illinois license as Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Analytical skills sufficient to assess current practice, summarize current research and identify implications for practice change at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills supporting effective communication with all levels of health care professionals and operations leaders.
  • State and National involvement in professional associations.
  • Maintains clinical expertise through participation in study groups, continuing education and active memberships in professional organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Certifications and Doctorate preferred.
  • Background in clinical research and research analysis with at least five years of clinical experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify current clinical research appropriate for implementation by SLPs through research review and analysis, in consultation with appropriate researchers, academics and leaders in specialty practice areas.
  • Advise Operations Directors and consults with other Practice Leaders regarding SLP practice change priorities, based on current evidence.
  • Lead and assures implementation of evidence-based SLP practice changes across all levels of care with support from Operations Directors.
  • Create and leads ongoing forums fostering practical working relationships between researchers and clinicians, enhancing the transfer of knowledge between both groups.
  • Collaborates with Internal Staff Development team on awarding and oversight of internal fellowship funds (Brown/Buchanan) including advising clinicians during application process and beyond.
  • Act as Academy liaison to relevant SRAlab research/clinical project leaders to support the Academy in development of future research/educational trainings and requirements.
  • Identify key requirements for treatment of specific patient populations (including specialty certifications) and guides staff toward appropriate coursework and educational opportunities toward pursuit of advanced trainings.
  • Teach and assists in oversight of course development in Internal Staff Development.
  • Recommend and oversees Advanced Competency requirements for Allied Health in conjunction with other Practice Leaders.
  • Present at appropriate national forums to support the functions of this position.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
