The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full-time (100%25) Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) to provide leadership in clinical care coordination/specialized nursing care, clinical education of nursing and respiratory care staff and other healthcare professionals, and use clinical nursing expertise in improving patient care for the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program within the UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC). Duties to include: Provide Leadership & Oversight for Specialized Services or Populations · Lead clinical care delivery for the ECMO Program and focus on improving patient outcomes and ECMO care through evidence-based practice and research. Assure competency of the staff among the team and the units ECMO care is provided in. · In collaboration with the ECMO Program Manager, oversee all onboarding/training for new ECMO specialist. · In collaboration with the ECMO Program Manager and Director(s), oversee initial training and adherence to the credentialing process for new Managing and Cannulating Physicians. · In collaboration with the ISS and CWS Nursing, Respiratory Care, and Physician Leadership, oversee all training for new designated support staff involved in the care of an ECMO patient. · Collaborate with the ECMO Manager in the implementation of ECMO Program strategic plan(s) as it relates to clinical care delivery, patient outcomes and nursing care. · Model and ensure patient and family-centered care for all ECMO patients among all units the ECMO Program provides care. Specialized Services for Nursing Care · Facilitate evidence-based projects for the ECMO Program and incorporate findings from these projects into clinical practice. · Participate in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements and provide specialized nursing care to ensure that patient assignment system accurately and appropriately reflects patient care needs and staff capabilities to enhance the overall education, understanding and implementation of appropriate practice. · Lead and facilitate interdisciplinary quality and process improvements for the ECMO Program. Provide Education · Provide advanced ECMO specialty knowledge to healthcare staff, patients, residents and/or fellows. Communicate detailed, complex medical and technical information to a variety of audiences. Develop/conduct unit-based educational programs (orientation, competencies and specialized training). Compliance with Internal Policies & External Regulations for Safe & Effective Care Delivery & Health Profession Education · Utilize knowledge and skill of compliance standards for the ECMO Program. Lead implementation and development of the ECMO Program policies and procedures and share responsibility for Quality Improvement (QI) plan with ECMO Manager, nursing practice leaders (NPL) and other nursing colleagues. · Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care for the ECMO Program that are consistent with and up to date with current ECMO practices. · Maintain knowledge of all regulatory and compliance standards impacting the ECMO Program, nursing practice and patient care. · Ensure staff understanding and maintenance of CMS standards for Patient Rights; other external standards; and UIHC policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Human Resource Management · Supervise care delivery of ECMO Specialists, providing evaluative feedback and recommendations regarding performance, develop, and manage the performance of staff and assure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures for the assigned area. · Develop and lead a culture of evidence-based practice within the ECMO Program.
