About The Position

The Clinical Physical Therapist position at the University of Montana focuses on providing patient-centered physical therapy services with a sports emphasis. This role combines clinical practice, mentoring of doctoral students, and instruction within the Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum. The therapist will work in the UMPT Physical Therapy Clinic, contributing to a positive work environment and engaging in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Eligible for Montana Licensure as a Physical Therapist; must have Montana licensure as a contingency for hire.
  • Three years of clinical practice as a physical therapist in an outpatient orthopedic and sports practice or completion of an ABPTRFRE-accredited sports residency.
  • Experience and proficiency in providing physical therapy services to individuals with orthopedic and/or sports-related injuries.
  • Knowledge and integration of best practices in physical therapy.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and maintain at least 75% productivity during clinical practice time.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team managing interdisciplinary communication with athletic trainers, surgeons, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills (writing, verbal, non-verbal).
  • Willingness to take initiative towards achieving the goals and mission of the clinic.
  • Experience in marketing physical therapy services to healthcare providers.
  • Ability to perform accurate assessments and provide constructive feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current Montana licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • ABPTS Certification in sports or orthopedics, or completion of an ABPTRFE-accredited residency.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
  • Current CPR certification (AED included).

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient-centered, evidence-informed physical therapy services with a sports emphasis.
  • Serves as a leader and role model for physical therapy students, demonstrating professional behaviors consistent with the APTA Code of Ethics.
  • Participates in clinical research on funded projects with a faculty primary investigator.
  • Delivers quality didactic instruction for graduate-level physical therapy students as assigned.
  • Supervises gym staff and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Participates in professional development activities to maintain clinical practice currency.
  • Assists with clinical precepting of graduate physical therapy students.
