About The Position

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Clinical Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for functioning as a Pharmacy Technician by performing duties associated with medication preparation and distribution. Those duties consist of, but are not limited to: Aseptic preparation of IV admixtures in compliance with departmental, hospital and licensing agency standards, filling and distributing medications through first fill, cart fill and/or Automated Drug Systems. They must maintain functional usage of the hospital computer system as well as interfaced pharmacy systems. They will need to maintain familiarity with a multitude of generic/trade name medications. They will need to perform Narcotic Distribution duties and automated dispensing medication refills. They must maintain the ability to fill oral prepackage syringes and use Medication Prepackage Machines ensuring Federal prepackaging guidelines are met. They are responsible for maintaining active state licensure and National Pharmacy Technician Certification. They must maintain familiarity with JCAHO/DNV Standards for the Department of Pharmacy and remain compliant with the practices of a unit dose medication distribution system. All functions must be performed using excellent customer relation skills.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician)
  • Minimum of one year pharmacy experience for CPhT
  • LPN, RN with CPhT Certification is acceptable with no experience
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Active Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Ability to obtain Tennessee State Pharmacy License within 60 days of employment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Nice To Haves

  • AS Degree in Pharmacy Technology or Accredited Pharmacy Tech Course completion
  • One year IV Compounding experience
