The Emory Transplant Center (ETC) includes transplant programs in kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, and lung. We performed over 670 transplants in 2024 which included over 400 kidneys, 160 livers, 60 hearts, and 25 lungs. Emory is currently one of the highest volume kidney transplant centers in the United States, performing over 380 kidney transplants so far in 2025.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • ASHP- Accredited Post Graduate Year 1 and 2 Residency or Fellowship or equivalent experience in the specialty area.
  • Active Georgia Pharmacist license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 90 days.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 6 months, if directly applicable to practice specialty.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant Pharmacy Specialty Board Certification is preferred.
  • Experience precepting students and residents is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cross coverage to all transplant services on weekends and holidays.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary transplant team using collaborative practice protocols.
  • Round with the inpatient team, perform daily profile reviews and monitoring.
  • Provide patient education and see patients in the transplant clinic on a rotational schedule.
  • Act as a drug information resource and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Develop and implement drug therapy protocols.
  • Collaborate on research projects.
  • Educate PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacists, residents, and students.
  • Ensure appropriate medication therapy and clinical outcomes for the institution related to specialty area.
  • Develop, promote, and practice advanced clinical practice based on recent evidence-based practice.
  • Review and process orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Prevent and resolve drug-related problems to ensure safety, efficacy, and cost-efficiency.
  • Perform daily in-depth patient profile review to assess, monitor and recommend appropriate drug therapy.
  • Lead the development of system nomograms and other guidelines.
  • Develop system policies and processes for proper dosing, storage, handling, dispensing, and administration of medications.
  • Participate in development of system clinical practice initiatives.
  • Develop effective patient education materials and techniques for drug therapy.
  • Engage in external professional activities to maintain clinical competency.
  • Develop accredited continuing education activities every 2 years.
  • Participate in scholarly activities in specialty area and submit publications or national presentations.
  • Lead medication use evaluation or quality improvement project annually in specialty area.
  • Oversee the work performed by pharmacy students, technicians, and pharmacists.
  • Document adverse drug reactions and medication variances per policy.
  • Promote new ideas to improve quality or overcome barriers to advance the profession in specialty area.
  • Participate in formulary review and medication selection to promote cost savings.
