Orlando Regional Medical Center, an 808-bed tertiary care teaching facility, seeks a highly qualified clinical pharmacist to participate in direct patient care activities in the Emergency Department and to support the delivery and development of pharmacotherapy programs. This emergency medicine pharmacy specialist position works with our ED pharmacy team of approximately 5 FTEs to provide 24/7 coverage for the emergency department. This position will be a mixture of ED shifts including morning, mid, and evening shifts. Overnight ED pharmacy coverage is provided by dedicated overnight ED pharmacists and is not an expectation of this position. ED pharmacy specialists at ORMC provide immediate, evidence-based medication expertise in the emergency department to optimize patient care, improve safety, and support rapid decision-making during critical situations. They collaborate with other ED healthcare members to manage acute pharmacotherapy, prepare high risk medications, and guide treatment at the bedside.

  • Manages medication therapy in collaboration with the healthcare team; develops, recommends, implements, monitors, and redesigns drug therapy regimens to optimize therapy.
  • Attends emergent situations as they arise and assists with drug optimization and bedside delivery, including but not limited to trauma alerts, stroke alerts, code blue 90, rapid sequence intubations, procedural sedation, STEMIs, and mass casualty/disaster response.
  • Provides drug and clinical information to other healthcare professionals.
  • Provides support to an ORMC affiliated free standing emergency department.
  • Evaluates and provides recommendations on pharmacokinetic or nutrition consultations.
  • Offers continuous quality improvement through creation and revision of order sets, protocols, guidelines and policies.
  • Assists in the enhancement of our computerized medical record to optimize the care of our patients in the emergency department, throughout our organization and facility.
  • Collaborates on various multidisciplinary and corporate committees.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary clinical translational research projects.
  • Precepts PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residents and pharmacy students for rotations, research projects, seminars, MUEs and drug monographs.
  • Participates in quality management initiatives such as, but not limited to: medication use evaluations, adverse drug reaction and medication error reporting, and guideline development and assessment.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree combined with PGY-1 residency.
  • PGY-2 residency experience in emergency medicine/critical care preferred or equivalent ED hospital experience.
  • Florida pharmacy licensure eligibility required.
