About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Responsibilities include providing ambulatory care services to patients at MAHEC Health Center at Biltmore and MAHEC Endocrinology, teaching didactic sessions for pharmacy students and residents; working collaboratively with other health care professionals; and providing clerkship experiences in inpatient family medicine for pharmacy students and residents. This position is accountable for the general and specific standards established by MAHEC, accomplishing objectives established in performance management plans, developing, implementing, and evaluating specific outcomes in accomplishing MAHEC’s strategic plan, and working collaboratively within the division and the organization. This position is also responsible for precepting PY4 and early immersion student rotations, as well as providing faculty assistance to the school for course instruction, pharmacy school interviews, faculty presence in student organizations, or other needs of the satellite campus. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct patient care services to patients at FHC Biltmore, Newbridge, Cane Creek, Enka-Candler, Deerfield, and Givens Conducts visits including Annual Wellness Visits (AWV) as well as chronic disease management including but not limited to diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, asthma, COPD, smoking cessation, medication assistance, polypharmacy, Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM). Appropriately documents all encounters in the electronic medical record and follows up on appropriate labs and tests Offers experiential education rotations in family medicine, endocrinology, and internal medicine to early immersion and advanced immersion students Teaches in MAHEC programs including family medicine and internal medicine didactics, student and resident seminars, and continuing education programs. Instruct, supervise and evaluate pharmacy residents and students during inpatient medicine experiences. Participates in MAHEC committees and teams as required. Participates in appropriate national, state, and local professional organizations. Participates in scholarly activities such as poster presentations, student and resident projects, and publishing. Serves as a resource for health care providers, lay groups, and learners in Western North Carolina on pharmacotherapy issues. Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with advanced training (Pharm.D.).
  • Minimum of one year of clinical and administrative practice experience and experience teaching and working collaboratively with other health care professionals and pharmacy students required.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency required
  • Ability to operate computer, manage electronic scheduling, email, and Microsoft Office components, including PowerPoint presentations.
  • Navigate web-based platforms.
  • Ability to effectively present information in didactic sessions, small group sessions, and clinical teaching sessions and respond to questions appropriately.
  • Ability to develop routine reports and to write business correspondence.
  • Registered Pharmacist with an active and unencumbered license to practice in North Carolina or meets eligibility requirements for endorsement by the Board of Pharmacy, eligibility to apply for Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner status, eligibility for clinical faculty appointment with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and UNC School of Medicine, and a valid North Carolina driver’s license required for regular in-town driving on a daily basis.
  • Board Certification (BCPS, BCACP, BCGP, BCADM) is required within one year of hire.

  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.
