Manages clinical activities, priorities, and problems, pharmacist staffing and workloads. Provides status report to pharmacy management effectively communicating issues, concerns, and suggestions as appropriate. Manages and develops clinical initiatives and determines therapeutic alternatives when drug shortages are identified and communicates with medical staff leadership and key stakeholders. Assists with budget preparation and daily financial activity specifically in relation to high cost drugs. Assists the Director and Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy with meeting administrative goals and objectives. Coordinates and supervises the activities of the staff of the Investigational Drug Service. Initiation, monitoring, and auditing of all investigational drug studies approved by the UTSW IRB to ensure compliance with federal, state, FDA, and other regulations. Develops policies and procedures and SOPs for safe and efficient storage, preparation, distribution and control of investigational drugs. Ensure compliance with comprehensive, accurate, and timely records and reports including usage and dispensing records, collection forms, financial and budgeting information. Serves as a resource and liaison for principal investigators, research sponsors, the IRB, and pharmacy. Ensuring adequate staffing, training new employees, performing evaluations, participation on inter- and intradepartmental committees, and ensuring that drug distribution, clinical services, and investigational services are provided according to established departmental policies and procedures.
