About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Specialty Pharmacy at UChicago Medicine is responsible for providing safe and effective medication therapy to adult and pediatric patients, particularly in the areas of pulmonology, including asthma and cystic fibrosis. This role involves direct patient care, clinical and operational support for specialty pharmacy services, and collaboration with healthcare providers in various specialty clinics. The pharmacist will also engage in medication management, patient education, and quality improvement initiatives while serving as a resource for other departments and precepting pharmacy students and residents.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency required.
  • Knowledge of contemporary hospital/clinical practice and service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel.
  • Significant general clinical knowledge and expertise in traditional therapeutics and patient-centered care.
  • Strong teaching and precepting skills and expertise in experiential training.
  • Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois or eligible to complete licensure process within 60 days of employment.
  • Board Certification in area of expertise is required within 18 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or another advanced degree preferred.
  • PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency highly preferred.
  • Clinical pharmacy experience (2-4 years) in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned patient service lines, clinical areas, and therapeutic programs.
  • Conduct in-clinic visits, follow-up monitoring, patient education, medication reconciliation, and vaccine recommendations.
  • Coordinate care for specialty medications to ensure access and affordability prior to therapy initiation.
  • Deliver direct patient care and clinical practice, including decentralized and service-based programs.
  • Participate in pharmacy operations and medication dispensing.
  • Facilitate experiential education and practice advancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
